Apparently, it is my generation that is done with driving drunk. Whew, what a relief. The CDC reports that teenage drinking and driving is down 54% since 1991. An NPR news article states less teens (6.6%) report having driven while under the influence in this years study, verses the 2002 (16.2%) report. Death by drunkenness is less popular now, and that’s an amazing thing. Does this mean that the awareness assemblies we had in school actually had an impact? Hopefully. We’ve already seen drops in cigarette use among teens over the past decade, and if this is an indication, then in the near future we should see a decrease in bullying, suicide, and other drug use among teens. I look forward to that day.
